Hi, I’m Simon!
I am a PhD researcher in Causality and Machine Learning at the Technical University of Berlin and the University of Potsdam supervised by Jakob Runge. I am also part of the ELLIS Phd Program where I am co-supervised by Sebastian Weichwald.
Research
My primary research interest lies in studying how modern machine learning and causal inference can be brought together in a mutually beneficial way. I am interested in identifiable representation learning methods that exploit principles from causality, how these methods transfer to real-world settings and challenging common perceptions of what causal representation learning entails.
Beyond that, I am generally drawn to pragmatic (what is useful, rather than what is true) machine learning paradigms that clearly define which criteria constitute success and measure their performance accordingly.
